Therapies and Tools for Living from the Heart
In
individual therapy I use all or a selection of the
following therapies depending on your
needs and goals. Group classes and retreats offer a blending and
weaving
together of healing/expressive arts and spiritual practices.
The theme and focus of the groups naturally creates a unique and
dynamic synergy of practices.
VOICE MOVEMENT
THERAPY
Voice
Movement Therapy (VMT) is central to Vessel of Voices.
VMT is an interdisciplinary healing arts form designed to help you
liberate your voice. Emotional and spiritual release occur faster and
more spontaneously when you allow your natural voice its full
expression. Through a rich array of creative tools you:
- discover a fuller, richer, more resonant voice
- release long-held tensions and constrictions in
your physical & emotional bodies
- heal childhood wounds and reclaim your core
self
- feel more confident to speak up, to speak your
truth
Take
a moment now ~ remember when you last walked barefoot on the beach and
stood at water’s edge . . . as you gaze out to the
horizon a wave softly laps over your toes, sand rushes between your
toes, and your feet sink into drenched sands . . . as
waters flow back to their source something in you has been washed clean
. . . with VMT voicework imagine being washed free of old burdens,
breaking open your heart, and setting sail your hopes and dreams . . .
through calling, sounding, singing, chanting . . .
VMT is a
“means of giving form and shape to the deepest parts of our souls.”
Paul Newham, founder of
Voice Movement Therapy
VMT
is a dynamic tool for learning ‘how to push the envelope’ and create
beyond what you can even imagine! Other creative
processes such as drawing, painting, mask making, creative writing and
psychodrama are possible. Using the expressive arts adds a surprising
‘lift’ of lightness to what might otherwise feel heavy and painful.
The
way to learn to live, to learn to love, (to learn to sing) cannot be
methodised. Therein lies the difficulty of explaining the work - and
therein, too, lies its splendour. -Marita Gunther
AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT
Authentic
Movement (AM) is a self-directed form of dance movement therapy,
also known as ‘Contemplative Dance’ or ‘Movement-in-Depth’. It is a
simple and powerful vehicle for increasing your body-mind awareness and
enhancing your spiritual development.
Like VMT,
Authentic Movement taps into the wellspring of the inner healer
and wisdom lying within the cells of your own body. AM and VMT must
both be experienced to fully appreciate what they are and the changes
even one session can set in motion. Authentic Movement has its roots in
Jungian philosophy and movement therapy; founded by Mary Starks
Whitehouse in the 1970’s.
JUNGIAN PSYCHOTHERAPY
The
focus in Jungian-oriented therapy is on you as a whole human being;
this is truly soulwork. As such, we regard the unconscious
with as much respect as the conscious self. In Jungian work we
recognize the uniqueness of each individual, thus, each person’s
process is different with its own personal symbols, dreams, and
rhythms.
Authentic
Movement and Voice Movement Therapy are based upon much of Carl Jung’s
writings on human development. Interweaving of forms
oftentimes unfolds in an organic way at a pace that supports your
growth and broadening perspective.
MEDITATION
& DEEP RELAXATION
(Stress
Reduction)
Vessel
of Voices uses an integrated form of meditation,
synthesizing eastern and western approaches to renewing and restoring
deep relaxation for maximum vitality and sense of peace. The basic
foundation for the meditations is the oldest and one of the most
comprehensive meditation systems available to us today: The Healing Tao
System. More...
HEART
RHYTHM MEDITATION (HRM)
Heart
Rhythm Meditation is a simple, 3-part method of giving
your heart the energy to heal and open to its innate capacity
for love, generosity, courage, and profound joy. HRM offers a unique,
comprehensive series of meditations that
address the dimensions of the heart and the health of the physical
heart. It is practical, powerful, and deeply authentic.
The heart is the magnetic center of your body;
life force
streams through your heart ~ freely flowing when unobstructed.
In our day-day lives we tend to accumulate blockages on several levels
- emotional, spiritual, physical, mental.
HRM addresses all of these so that our hearts can once
again flow freely on all levels and be strengthened in all of
its dimensions.
Dr. Katherine Burleson, cardiologist at University
of New Mexico,
says of HRM:
“A powerful, authentic method for healing your
emotional and spiritual heart and improving your physical health.

EMDR/EFT
EMDR:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming was
developed to treat people who have experienced trauma; applications are
much broader today; this process is very specific and can be used to
help a person break a specific thought pattern, habit, or basic belief
that is not supportive in helping the person move forward in his/her
life.
EFT:
Emotional Field Therapy is a process to help a person release old
patterns of behavior, reactions, & thoughts that
are limiting growth. EFT is based upon science of mind-body integration
and eastern medical model. If you are seeking relief from a current or
long-standing problem that simply will not go away, remember that you
are not ‘that’ (the problem). EFT reconnects you with healthy beliefs
and behaviors by breaking through habituated thought forms and neural
pathways.
MEDICAL QI GONG
The
gentleness and slow pace of Qi Gong naturally enhances our body
awareness, balances our systems, and strengthens our
alignment with physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Qi Gong
predates T’ai Chi; medical qi gong has been used in clinics in China
for centuries to treat illness and to increase balance and promote
health in all individuals. The movements are coordinated with the
breath and one’s awareness.
Qi Gong is a
profoundly satisfying system of exercise that can serve anyone who has
a desire to improve health and longevity. In VoV medical
qigong is incorporated as an integral part of an individualized healing
system. Additionally, Qigong lends itself to busy schedules &
to those with little energy. Sessions at home can be short or long -
easily adapting to any schedule.
